‘In Print We Trust’ is an article written by Sam Upton in 2021 for the Value of Paper and Print (valueofpaperandprint.com.au).
It could’ve easily been written yesterday. The issue global audiences face in regard to fake news, the concept of credibility and who to believe is increasing. It’s innately human to want to know the answers, but with truth mixed up in a tornado of feeds, targeted information streams and sometimes volatile cyber interaction, it’s easy to lose sight of the shoreline.
We’re only at the beginning of understanding the twists and turns of ‘the internet’, social media and now AI. While all of these things have their very positive angles, navigating through the onslaught of quick changing images and info snippets is challenging.
To hold a piece of information in your hand gives you the space to pause and consider, to read at your leisure and analyse your options without digital noise. Print still has a sense of legitimacy. It can take the reader to another place, give them a sense of empathy and most importantly, a moment to process and make decisions.
